Generating of solar energy has been initiated at natural gas station in Yenangyoung on 25 December, according to South-East Asia Gas Pipeline Company Limited (SEAGP).
The solar energy system has a maximum capacity of 170 kilowatts and battery energy storage capacity is 480 kilowatt-hours.
SEAGP said in a statement that there are 283 power cuts at Yenangyoung natural gas distribution station plus frequent voltage fluctuation in 2024, causing huge impacts on the factory operation. Through different solutions, SEAGP considered an alternative approach to supply sufficient electricity for the station’s power system by using solar which is abundantly available in Myanmar, it said.
The solar energy system can save the electricity bill but also cover the cost in four years and it can also help reduce carbon dioxide emissions by about 374 tonnes a year, it added. — Htun Htun/ZS/ED
